Filthy Fridays: from doughnuts to buns

Fridays have always been for treats. When I was little, my mum would buy us doughnuts after school. So a few years into Southsea Coffee, I thought, why not share that ritual with you and we did Doughnut Fridays for years.

It was fun, it was sticky, it was chaos.

Then Southsea got blessed with brilliant specialist doughnut and coffee stops, and we’ve never been here to tread on toes. so for a while, the Friday chaos stopped.

Now, if we’re honest, Southsea Coffee has quietly become the home of the cinnamon bun. So we followed our noses (and the smell of cinnamon and sugar) and made a simple decision:

Doughnuts out. Filthy buns in.

Why the switch?

Doughnuts were our first Friday love letter. But buns are very “us.” They were the first things we started to bake when we started baking in house.

We mix, prove, bake, and finish them. They suit our kitchen, they suit our coffee, and they make the whole shop smell like a warm hug.

Also, nothing soaks up an extra shot like a pillowy bun with a little frosting running down your wrist. You’re welcome.

What’s a Filthy Friday?

Every Friday morning from 8:30am, we’ll be baking a limited batch of filthy buns and load them up. Think generous spirals, glossy glaze, and a weekly special that leans full dessert.

Because you survived Monday, and also Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

The line-up will change each week, but expect things like:

  • Banoffee Bomb: toffee sauce, banana bits, a swoop of cream.

  • Berry Cheesecake: tangy cream cheese, jammy berries, biscuit crumb.

  • Honeycomb Crunch: shards of house honeycomb and vanilla drizzle.

We’ll always have our classic cinnamon, and of course the SOUTHSEA BUN, because, well, why wouldn't we?

How to get one (before they’re gone)

  • Pre-order by Thursday 12pm to guarantee a box for Friday morning pick-up

(contact us either by phone 023 93079501 or email admin@southseacoffee.co.uk)

  • Or walk in from 8:30am and take your chances. They do sell out.

  • Pair with a flat white or a long black if you like a little contrast with your sweetness.

Filthy Fridays are a nod to where we started and a celebration of where we are now.

A little nostalgic, a lot delicious, and made for sharing. See you Friday.
