We can’t quite believe this Christmas has been our third here at Southsea Coffee, where does the time go?! We love everything about the season that involves friends and family get-togethers, usually involving plenty of food and drink, but now 2016 is underway we’re ready to embrace a fresh start for the new year. For us this means getting our bodies back on track after all the (delicious!) over-indulgence of Christmas, which is why we have created our Detox Salad, packed full of carefully selected, feel good ingredients.
Described on our new menu as ‘carrot and sweet potato noodles with spinach, broccoli, avocado, activated paprika seeds and parsley, with a lemon dressing’ it already sounds fresh and delicious (as well as being super green!) but why have we chosen to include these specific elements for a detox salad? We thought it would be interesting to consider individual ingredients and the affect they have on the body, so you can understand a little more about why this perfectly balanced plate is great for the post-Christmas detox.
First up - carrot and sweet potato noodles. In the salad they will add texture and crunch as we pop them in raw, in order to maximise their nutrients and natural enzymes. The carrots are packed full of beta-carotene, which is converted to vitamin A in the liver, helping with your eyesight and improving skin tone. Sweet potato is a rich source of B6 and potassium, essential for heart health, as well as vitamins C, A & E to help you fight off winter colds with an immune system boost.
Spinach, broccoli and avocado come together to form a super green trio, bursting with a wide variety of vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients. Their anti-inflammatory properties will help calm and soothe irritated stomach lining, as well as giving you a big dose of iron to increase energy levels and support your immune system.
By activating the sunflower and pumpkin seeds we begin the process of germination, making their nutrients much more readily available. These little packages of good stuff include iron & magnesium to combat tiredness and fatigue, and combining them with paprika means more support for the immune system as this flavourful spice is a great source of vitamin A, E and B-6.
To help the body flush out toxins a handful of parsley, a natural diuretic, is included in the mix. It is also full of the vitamins and minerals that are essential for a detox, as well as being a natural blood sugar balancer. A fresh and vibrant lemon dressing is also a natural aid to digestion, meaning the Detox Salad will leave you feeling full and satisfied without sluggishness or bloating.
Sticking to your resolutions doesn’t have to mean dry leaves and water! Visit us to feast on tasty, feel-good food and pour some goodness into your body… so you can finish off the Christmas chocolates without the guilt!
